Haunted Places: Assiniboia Club

Built in 1912, The Assiniboia Club housed one of Regina’s most popular men’s clubs at the time. The three-story brick building is located at 1925 Victoria Avenue. Although the Assiniboia club closed in 2007, the historic building is now home to Crave Kitchen and Bar. Crave keeps the upper floor closed to the public, and that is where some of the ghostly haunts have happened.

In the Assinibioa Clubs glory days, women were not allowed inside the building because of the club rules. Still, men were known to often sneak sex-workers into the upper floor bedrooms. Local lore whispers that a private room on the third floor had a man sneak a women in to later murdered her.

Her ghost haunts the building by roaming the halls, making grim noises and allowing visitors to see glimpses of her through the windows. Some have seen the figure of an alluring woman, only for her to disappear when they get close. Witnesses have also heard disembodied voices, seen items moving on their own and lights flickering. One of the employees of a former business within the club, Danbury’s Restaurant, once witnessed a set of foot-tall vases hover in the middle of the room on their own. Check out the building yourself and you may be in for a fright!
