Lepine Road

Lepine Road is named for Maxime Lepine, who was a Metis man and advisor to leader Louis Riel. He was a member of the provisional government set up in the Red River Colony in 1869 and fought to protect the rights of the Metis. He fought at Fish Creek and Batoche, where he surrendered and in 1885 was sentenced to seven years in prison for high treason.
