Crown Bakery Limited Ghost Sign
On the south side of this municipal heritage building is the ghost sign of Crown Bakery Limited, on the west side the remnants of Weston can be seen. This building was built in 1929 for Crown Bakery Ltd. In 1938, The Weston Fruitcake Company of Ontario began purchasing bakeries across Canada, and in 1938 purchased Crown Bakery and the name was changed to Weston’s Breads & Cakes, and used it until 2012. The bakery was a large organization, baking 75,000 loaves of bread each week, and used 22 horse-drawn wagons and two trucks for their daily deliveries. The north side of the building is where they stored the wagons and stables for horses. The building is now home to The Local Market, which features local retail, produce and restaurant.
