Garnet Street
Garnet Street is one with a history that contemporary Regina may disagree with memorializing. The street is named after Sir Garnet Wolseley, a commander of an expedition of British and Canadian militia sent to Saskatchewan to repress the Red River Rebellion of 1870. Wolseley was a career soldier, fighting in the Burmese War, Crimea and Indian Mutiny. When he was fighting in Egypt, he obtained the services of the Canadian voyageurs who assisted him in the Red River Rebellion to assist him in navigating the waters of the Nile.
